Final reaction paper due 12-10

This paper is a little more about business and marketing than advertising alone.

Here's an article about the state of movie rentals.

Netflix has also just introduced a streaming-only plan for less than $10/month.

From the article and your own observations (and any other research you want to do), what do you see to be the future of marketing movies as an entertainment medium? What do you think has the most potential for revenue? What movie-watching options/plans/businesses are in the most trouble?

  1. I love the new rise in personal internet media such as netflix because of the convenience. At first i thought it was rediculous because now you dont even have to leave your house to go get a movie but i was wrong and it really comes in handy. Also I use to be a Blockbuster customer and there prices for movies/video games was ridiculous and now with other companies such as gamefly where you can have a game shipped to your house for as long as you want for only 5.99 is a great deal. A friend of mine just got netflix on his Nintendo Wii and he has watched more movies and Tv series in the last month then he has in the last year before getting Netflix. I feel with the combo of prices and convenience Blockbuster and Family Video should reprioritize and come up with a solution fast before everyone is aware of the savings they could have.

  2. Also i liked how in the article it stated that netflix has the movie recommendation section. Although it's a little odd that a movie distributor is literally profiling you on the shows you watch to get an establish feel of shows you like to better serve needs is a little creepy but it ends up being very helpful and convenient in the long run...Also how personal will we let things like this get before we feel its almost invasion of privacy or will we care at all?

  3. Video rental stores such as Family Video and Mr. Movies will soon be a thing of the past. They can not compete with the prices that netflix and redbox offer. Peopl do not want the hassle of being a member or even driving to the store. Most of my friends stream video straight from their wii or xbox for i think 8 dollars a month. The streaming is highquality, low cost, extremely convenient, and the future. Streaming videos and television shows will do away with traditional video rental stores. Netflix will make the most money out of this market and no other way to do movies has as much potential.
