Reaction Paper #1
JOU 165
Due September 10 by midnight
Here's an open-ended paper for our first one, designed to get you to start thinking about ads around you:
Discuss which advertising format you feel is the most effective and why. Are there some products that are better advertised in certain format than others? Why do you think this is?
Keep it to 500-700 words. Try to reference back to the readings when you can.
Remember, our reaction papers will be due in a week, by Fridays at midnight. No late papers accepted. Everyone is expected to do 9 through the semester. The 10th is extra credit.
Let me know if you have any questions!
I believe that the most effective advertising format is commercials as you are sitting there watching your favorite show on t.v. you see some pretty bad commercials but don’t want to turn the channel because you might miss something when your show comes back on and although there are a lot of horrible commercials out there are a lot that peak a persons interest. I have noticed that when watching a commercial you hardly ever get the actual price of the item they are trying to sell. the best they will give you is when they are referring to a car and say "it's only 18,595" and under usually follows. so if there product is that wonderful why not tell everyone how much it cost and the cost of the competitors? they could use the old they are ripping you off by selling this junk product or let people know they want something nice they have to pay the few extra bucks for quality.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of positive advertisements out there that are good for everyone all around. One of the advertisements I feel is changing the world and how people react to it is the “go green” advertisements. They are helping people become more environmentally conscience of what they are throwing away and how they are unconsciously destroying the earth and that there are simple steps a consumer can take to become more environmentally friendly. One of these steps are saving on energy and distributors coming up with hybrid cars, washer and dryers that take less time and water to do a load of laundry.
The four p’s in advertising are product pricing, place to sell, and promoting the product through sales and advertising activities. The four fundamentals of free market economics are self-interest. People and organizations act to for fill their own self interests. They want more for less, more self-interested buyers naturally lead to more product availability at more competitive prices.
Advertisers must give complete information to all buyers and sellers. At all times. Many buyers and sellers antitrust laws is if one company doesn’t fulfill a customers needs, another will capitalize by producing more “market responsive products”
Absence of externalities (social costs) consumption of a product that could be harmful for people who are not involved in using or buying a product.
