Discussion #5.1

Alright, first go to YouTube Time Machine. Then, pick a year (it's up to you!). Click "OFF" on everything but commercials. Find an interesting commercial and paste the link (there are a couple ways to do this .. one is you can click on the video when it is playing and it will open in a new tab and you can grab the URL address).

Talk about what techniques the commercial is using -- look back at chapter 4 for ideas. What target markets are they going after? What utility does it offer? How is it trying to sell you? Is it trying to get the audience to go out and buy something today or is it more about building the brand long-term?

I believe they're going after people who would like to try something new. It looks more like a spur of the moment idea, doesn't look like they would stick with that meal very long. It tries to sell you by two guys playing chess and one guy talks about McDonald's new "Prawns", instead the other guy thinks he meant to say pawns.

This commercial is the funniest thing ever. People in '96 actually believe in spray on hair, and looking at the commercial, it looks true and real. Man, how stupid were we back then?

I think I kinda over did it, but it was way too hard to choose. All these commercials are awesome and they hit close to home. My son and I watch WWE at home and these commercials feature WWE superstars.

this commercial uses a very catchy song to imbed itself into you head. If you were to ask anyone who grew up during this era if they knew the slinky song i am sure they are to say yes. They are for the most part targeting kids. I'd say from todlers to early teens. the utility offered is all the fun hours you will have playing with the slinky and they sure do a good job of showing it in action.

This ad is way before my time but i think it's a classic commercial of this generation.
It's uses it's catchy slogan so you don't forget the name.
Also i like how it shows the boy using cheerios so he can save the pretty girl from the villain.
In the end it didn't say anything about how it tastes or anything informative about the product but it probably made alot of little boys want to have cereal.

I'm not sure if this link is going to work. If it doesn't let me know.
This commercial was for Lifesavers candy. They used cartoon fish and a fun little jingle to capture your attention. The colors were bright (as bright as they could be back then) and it made you look.
