Based on chapter 6 about research...
Let's say DMACC wants to revamp its cafeteria(s) (we're all on different campuses). They haven't been very popular and they think they can do a better job with them.. however they're not 100% sure they know what's not working or what students "want."
They want to do a little research to see what can be done.
Using what you've read about in Chapter 6, what would be a good method to use? What questions would be good to ask? What is the goal of the research?
I believe they could begin by having the student body do a questionaire were they would answer questions about how they feel about the cafeteria now an what improvements they would like to see from the layout to the food selection.Having the opinions an demands of the people who mostly will use the facility will give them a pretty good idea o how they can best serve the student body so that they wanna eat a lounge in the cafeteria
ReplyDeleteDMACC should start by doing some research on the top rated cafeterias from colleges around the country. Looking into layout of cafeteria and menus. Then come up with a menu plan based on this. Then a questionaire to DMACC students. This survey should do qualitative and quanitive research. The tests need to be valid and reliable in order to gain access to the information needed to inmporve the dinning facility. They could have the students rate their menu plan and also give suggestions to fine tune the menu plan to the DMACC student body.
ReplyDeleteGood ideas so far -- but what specific questions could you ask?
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone there should be a question sheet sent out through our DMACC.edu accounts.Obviously we have to be realistic and can't ask for steak and lobster everyday but definitley like high school foods with better quality. Hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, maybe even a dessert bar. I haven't been to the other campuses cafeteria's but at Urban Campus in the morning for $3 dollars you can get a freshly made breakfast sandwich on a fresh croissant bun with real bacon an cheese with a fresh over easy egg. Now almost every morning after class i get one, a lot of my attraction to the breakfast sandwich is that it's made with all real products and i get to see it cooked in front of me and it gives me that reassurance that it's healthy for you and it looks just like it would if i cooked it in my kitchen. If they did this with lunch im sure they would make alot of profits plus it gives us students the ability to stay at school and not be late for class and still get something descent to eat.I think the questions we should ask are:
ReplyDelete1.) What could you eat alot and not get tired of?
2.)Are students allergic to anything we mighht be serving?
3.)What do you think should come with your lunch?(fries, vegetables, fruit?)
4.) How much should lunch cost?
I would send out a question sheets inquiring about what foods students enjoy to eat. With that in mind i would then inquire how much should those foods should cost, what drinks should we should serve and what their feelings on the prior cafeteria are. I would poll the students on what improvements need to be made and then revamp the entire cafeteria's image with a new menu with food that they enjoy. The goal of all the research would be to give the students what they want at the price they feel is fair and to put as many people in the cafeteria as possible
